Jessica Walker, a Harpswell resident and Mt. Ararat High School student, as well as a member of the National Honor Society and the daughter of a fisherman, organized an October 15, 2023, fundraiser for the Harpswell Santa Fund. This fund plays an important role in providing home heating assistance to the residents of Harpswell.

Jessica’s motivation for spearheading this event was her commitment to community outreach, a requirement for her National Honor Society membership.

She collaborated with organizations in the fishing industry, including the Maine Lobstermen’s Association, Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association, and the New England Fishermen’s Stewardship Association. Her aim was to emphasize the vital role the fishing community plays in the overall well-being of a community, as it directly supports initiatives like the Harpswell Santa Fund.

Thanks to Jessica’s dedication and hard work, the Spaghetti Supper and Dessert Potluck fundraiser raised an impressive sum of over $2,000, surpassing her initial fundraising goal. Jessica’s efforts deserve recognition and applause. Harpswell, along with its fishing community, is truly fortunate to have a dedicated and passionate advocate like her. Well done, Jessica!
