What Does the Future Hold for the Maine Lobster Fishery?

Department of Marine Resources (DMR) Commissioner Patrick Keliher was brief and to the point at a session on the future of the Maine lobster fishery at the Maine Fishermen’s Forum in March. Referring to southern New England’s and Maine’s respective fisheries, he said, “We’re up and they’re down due to recruitment failure. Since 2012 we’ve talked about being ready for a decline. We don’t want to duplicate what happened in southern New England.”
